I'm thinking a bit about the borders. I tried dotted borders, but I'm a bit uncertain. The borders are already transparent, so the dotting might be a bit superflous.

Having the borders less obvious would be fine if thats what you had in mind but for some reason the dashes seemed to make it stand out even more.

Just the basic troops perhaps. Witch elves and corsairs and executioners and all that.

Dotted borders would be hideous for the full map. Please lose them.
Solid border, with transparency , look great.
