Default Is there something wrong with this?

PBEM game(s) against an opponent.
Only against this person when I load the game/my turn, I get some weird numbers in the bottom.

For example from one screenshot I have
Him: Loads 002 Quits 002 Fails 017
Me: Loads 018 Quits 017 Fails 016

I don't remember the specific turn, but I think it was around 20 or something.

Now since I only keep getting weird numbers against this person my thought was that he might be cheating. But, it's not just his numbers but mine too that don't make sense. And I know I don't cheat.

So, any ideas? The above didn't just appear in one turn but every turn with the numbers changing.

Well, if neither of you were reloading the game - were either of you trying to "stretch" a PBEM slot to play several games in the same PBEM save game slot simultaneously?. Apparently some download game holders try to do this to stretch the 5 slot limit. Any attempt to do this by either player will mean the counters are meaningless, so do not do this for secure PBEM. The save slot is reserved for the one game only for its entire life, for both players.

Also - any reinstallation or patch update of the game (or conceivably, playing around with mods) in the middle of the secure PBEM game can scramble the pointers, which is why we tell players of secure PBEM to complete games in progress before any patch install.

Cheers
Andy

Well, I haven't done any of the above, but I don't know about him, I will have to ask him.
It's not the first game it happens and I am a bit paranoid by nature so, we'll see.

Thank you.

I asked him and he said a couple of things. He said he doesn't use the same slot for more than one pbem game and that he doesn't use any mods.
I will copy and paste what else he said so that I don't change anything (meaning) by mistake.

Quote:
On a couple of occasions I haven't had the time to finish my turn in one go.
So I saved the game and continued it later.
I think that should explain it.
Anyways, I'm not cheating.
.....
One thing could explain it.
I once downloaded a mod for the Finnish OOB
I tried it, but I made a different folder for it.
So that one folder contains the default OOBs, and the other contains the same files, except for the Finnish OOB.
So one folder is named "game data" and the other is "game data_FIN" or something.
And when I wanted to play with the Finnish OOB, I renamed the folders like "game data" and "game data_default".
Now, when we started playing PBEM games, I returned the folders to their original names.
And I figured it should work.
However, I'm not an expert on how the game works, so it might've caused something.
We started playing a couple of months ago. I can't remember if I noticed this in every battle so far, but it has certainly appeared before.

So, what do you think?

He should not be renaming folders in the middle of a game - that is messing about with the game data, after all!.

And there already exists a method for swapping OOBs - the OOB swapper utility, so no need to fiddle with renaming folders either.

I believe what he meant about the finnish OOB was done before we started playing PBEM games, a few months ago, not now or while we play these battles.

I guess I will have to think about it.
Thank you.
