Bug What 3 companies should I buy If I want to be as accurate as possible?

I'm not mentioning any specific countries and dates on purpose, If I can I hope to get a general answer.

THE PROBLEM: Time and time again I am faced with this horrible SPMBT problem as I'm sure some of you have also faced.
I go to the buy screen and I see light tank companies, heavy tank companies, mbt companies, RECON AFV/jeep companies, support infantry companies, normal infantry companies, etc. (The last two examples are the meat of my question).

I know that I (Lt. Col.) am in charge of 3 combat companies and myself (the invisible headquarters company)

When I buy my three Infantry companies for example do I buy one infantry RECON company, one infantry company, and one one heavy infantry support company or two infantry RECON and one infantry or three RECON or 3 infantry or 3 support? What should I do?

Please help me as this issue is really troubling me.
Any response at all is greatly appreciated
Sorry for the bad gramer I'm an American

"Accuracy" is unfortunately determined by country, time period, location, etc. You also have 200 unit core limit IIRC. You can try and be as accurate as you can, but that can just as easily be replaced with "this works well for me." At the end of the day Steel Panthers is a game, and should be played as such. If you're in a PBEM game with someone who really wants to recreate a historically accurate scenario then it would probably eschew both players to be both aware of this and have a good insight into the nations they're playing and the time frame and location (as noted before). Otherwise its pretty much down to a likely gentleman's agreement not to buy only on-map MLRS batteries, and back to what you feel comfortable with.

You're not limited to three companies. A quick experiment showed that with only buying cheap infantry companies I could easily buy 10 companies worth, and hit the 200 unit limit before I ran out of credits.

My advice is throw accuracy into the trashcan. Buy the equipment you need to do what YOU want to do. So what if your force depicts historical accuracy or not.

If you simply must be accurate, then go with pre-made scenerio's
as they tend to be more historically accurate.
Nobodies going to arrest you for being historically inacurate.

Try to focus on enjoying the game rather than beating yourself up for nothing.

thatguy96 I know I can buy any assortment of companies and units that I choose, you missed my point. This is my fault and not yours. My point is that as a "light Col." (US ARMY) I can typically count on commanding 3 combat companies if memory servers correctly. I wish to use the correct amount of subordinates as my rank depicts and not some gamy arrangement of Abrams and snipers for example.

With that said I would greatly appreciate for someone to tell me if they could how many recon companies/normal companies/support companies - comprise the entire battalion. Perhaps it is more than 3 total companies, I'm not really sure. Any info would be especially excellent

Should I use 3 of a kind or mix and match for best RL simulation?
Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree, If I'm the only person that cares about this.

If it's really important to you ,try using google to dig up that info. It must be out there somewhere.
I've never concerned myself with such things. I mean theres never a speck of blood anywhere, you know thats not reality.

So you are talking about a specific country hehe. That changes everything. In the US Army, a Lt Col is usually at the head of a Battalion. Battalions (which in the US Army is used for Infantry, Armor, and Artillery formations of this size, and Squadrons, the relevant formation size for Cavalry units) vary in overall construction by type and time period. Usually there is some mix of companies and special platoons (signals, etc). I believe you are correct in assuming that on average the normal number has been around 3 combat companies.

It still really depends on what you want, and what you're looking to recreate. I'm not sure what the current breakdown is, but in terms of fighting elements, a Tank Battalion deployed to Vietnam in the 1960s had three Tank Companies, a Scout Platoon, and a Mortar Platoon. I think this was the basic organization in the US Army elsewhere too. A Marine Tank Battalion had four tank Companies (3 Medium and 1 Heavy), though Battalions deployed to Vietnam didn't have the Heavy Tank Company, replaced by a Reinforced AT Company. There was also a Flame Tank Platoon in the HQ Company.

You see, we're already getting pretty varied, and we've just looked at two different Battalion types.

I don't trust google, And I wouldn't trust wikipedia to help me write a university term paper let alone something important like SPMBT If you guys have any good sites plz let me know because I DO trust the Steel Panthers community.

Thanks thatguy for your well written and fast response, I would like to admit that me not telling you specifics to go on was kinda of dumb.

www.globalsecurity.org

I found that using google. It seems to layout all the current militaries.

Personally I think all information found on the street is not accurate.

Look for the Information Button. In a couple of OOB's they tell you what you should be buying up to some fairly high levels. A prime Example is the East German "border" units.
