Israeli tank Commander
Anybody know the name of the nutter Israeli tank commander in The Yom Kippur War.
From very vague memory ended up in charge of a platoon & upon seeing his virtually lone defence of a compound later more. He surprised the Egyptians by charging at them despite the tanks being totaly outclassed. He lost 2 tanks badly burnt in one I think but took over others. The loss of his second tank was to much for his driver who ran away, cant say I blame him really.
Think he was on leave or had finnished national service when it kicked off.
Possibly near enough had to talk into letting him use the tank as regular crew was not available so formed a crew out of men there.

Re: Israeli tank Commander
The commander you are asking for sounds like some poor soul from the strategic reserve that used modified WW2 Sherman tanks. Almost 60% of all casualties in the Yom Kippur War were tank commanders I did a search through my Yom Kippur October War book by Simon Dunstan and found one commander named Lt. Zwi Zwicka Greengold for his efforts at the TAP road where he fought for 36 hours even if he was severely wounded he got awarded with the highest of decorations the Ot Hagvura equalling the Victorian Cross.
Another brave commander was one Major Shumel Askarov 53rd battalion that were wounded severely after throw out from his tank after it got hit by tank fire then rescued by paratroopers and returned to the battlefield after a quick patch-up got wounded a second time this time by AK47 bullet to the head was saved by Israeli surgeons and rewarded with the Ot Haoz.
Side-note:
The Egyptian T-62 tank in 1973 October War lacks its 12,7 mm DShK something that maybe could be added in the next patch perhaps? There are movies on You Tube that clearly show this detail on Egyptian T-62 tanks. Maybe something for Patch 5.0.
12.7 mm DShK 1938/46 antiaircraft heavy machine gun (optional until T-62 Obr.1972)
I link the movies where you can see for yourselves.

Re: Israeli tank Commander
shilka, Zvika fought with Centurions, he wasn't assigned to any unit when the war kicked off (he was currently in Co commander course) and he just made the way up to Golans on his own.

Re: Israeli tank Commander
Thank you very much Marek as soon as I saw the name remembered.
yes one serious badass, both foolhardy & incredibly lucky but hey when your backs against the wall & your family just down the road. If you read a fuller acount its amazing what he got the tanks under his wing to do. I was not joking about the driver probably the only one amongst them that had any sense of self preservation. He had just been lead tank in a force of 4 or 5 vs about 30 enemy tanks been blown up for the second time & when asked to drive at them again it was just to much

"He popped out the drivers hatch, one hand on the pistol he kept with him as moral support. Pritchard allowed himself to overlook it, since the driver's compartment of the Plow was often the closest to the enemy of the whole copping unit."
