Default Stellar Cascades; the suck?

I never script stellar cascades but once my script is done, the mages often use this spell and it never does anything at all. Also, the AI uses it on my troops and it does nothing there either.

Whats up with that?

Stellar Cascades: wonderous, anti-thug/SC fun!
5-AoE, 100 precision, 25 AP-stun damage. Basically: gives units fatigue. Since MR does nothing, it's a great way to take down pesky SCs or thugs or really annoying parties of high-end sacreds if you have S2 in abundance. You won't see the stun damage show up on the main battle screen, but if you click the units, you'll see the fatigue. It's useful. Really, you need it to be spammed by multiple mages if you want it to show up noticeably. in a large battle.

The best part is that stellar cascades can double (or quintuple!) up on a single target. Ever seen a SC go from fighting fit to unconcious in one-two spell without the possibility of resistance?

It's a beautiful sight, only beaten by Gift of the Heavens on a fleeing SC who is one turn away from moving of the field...

Or nevermind, I don't know which is more beautiful

I actually worry that Stellar Cascades is overpowered, as it's pretty brutal!

Quite apart from using it against SCs, if you have a load of S2 mages (or S1 mages under Light of the Northern Star) then you can mash opposing armies. 1-2 hits makes their troops noticeably vulnerable to yours, and 4+ and they're essentially dead, just waiting to be cleaned up.

Indeed, combine that with Rigor Mortis / Heat from Hell / Grip of Winter when your units are immune to that and it's quite an easy victory. Can anyone say if shields protect from missiles (archer fire, spells) if the shield-bearing unit has over 100 fatigue?
