Yes, he can be charmed and he retains his prophet status. If he was enslaved, he needs to be GoRed and won't get his holy magic levels back, but if he's charmed, he keeps them too.

A charmed or enslaved prophet counts as killed for the original owner and works just like a regular prophet for the new owner. The new owner must lose all prophets before he can appoint a new one.
