Some Questions From A New Purchaser
I just bought the retail version earlier today. I have played the free version but still a newbie. A couple of questions. When playing a PBEM game is there a way to determine how each side is doing in terms of achieving victory during the game? Secondly, what is the number on the far right column represent in the artillery display? In the documentation it says that if you have the command option on, units will not dig in unless you give them a defend order. How do you do that? Finally, getting back to artillery, when you set up a bombardment how do you know what kind of delay there will be before it occurs? Thanks.

Re: Some Questions From A New Purchaser
What documentation about "command option", "defend orders" and "digging in"?. The only game with command, and units that dug in after a while was SP 3, not this game (based on the SP 2 engine).
SPWAW was based on the SP3 game engine. If you have SPWAW, you are on completely the wrong forum, wrong publisher, wrong development team etc.
Please do give me a pointer to the documentation, the title of that document would help, who it was written by etc. If "Steel Panthers 3 - Brigade Combat" or "SPWAW" or "matrix games" features heavily in that, then you are definitely lost, and you likely need to go to the Matrix forums.
Everything else is irrelevant until we have determined what game's documentation you are actually reading, and what game you have on your PC. As I say - from the non-WinSPWW2 elements described, you seem to have SPWAW, most likely?. Or are reading their documentation and trying to apply it to our game perhaps - which is like trying to drive a Microsoft PC by reading Apple's manuals...
Cheers
Andy

Re: Some Questions From A New Purchaser
Sorry my mistake, I was reading page 37 of the SP World at War manual, the section on Entrenchments. I just assumed that this had not been changed for SP WW II. However, I still have the questions about what kind of delay there is when calling in artillery. Also, can you check the current victory point status during a game, and finally, what do the numbers in the right column of the artillery screen mean? Thanks.

Those numbers in the right hand column indicate the delay for artillery. The first number indicates the number of your own turns until the bombardment commences. In case of zero, it indicates that the artillery stonk will happen immediately after the next enemy turn.
The second number (ranging from 0 to 5) indicates the intensity of the bombardment, the smaller the better.

Don't let yourself get confused on the simularties of winSPWW2 and SPWaW,they are totally different, on one aspect may seem the same but not compatible with the other,so you'll need to do a little retraining "as we all have":-)

Re: Some Questions From A New Purchaser
Just to clarify this becasue the subject comes up at least once a year......
winSPWW2 and winSPMBT are heavily modified SP2 code
The other game is modified SP3 code.
SP2WW2 was the original MOD with work begining January 1998 and first release Dec 1998, then came SPWW2 then the other game , then came SPMBT then came the windows version of SPWW2 and SPMBT.
Any similarities between our games and the other one are purely co-incidental and any info you may read or may have already read about that game DO NOT apply to ours and no you cannot check current victory point status during a game any more than real troops could in a real battle

Re: Some Questions From A New Purchaser
The only problem is it's wrong and it's not loading fully so please remove it from here and anywhere else it's been posted
EDIT>>>>>>> TIMELINE GRAPHIC IS NOW CORRECT....DRG
SPMBT NOT released a year after SP2WW2. ( read our spww2 release history...... it was SP2WW2 then SPWW2v2 in 1999. SP2WW2 was hexedited. SPWW2 had some code changes )
SPMBTv2.01 was released July 2003 and that came out about a month or so after v2 and as I recall V1.5 was released in the fall of 2002 and V1 was released in either the spring of 2002 or very later 2001 . We don't keep a release record for MBT like we do for WW2 but I KNOW there is no way SPMBT was released in 1999 because that was the year SPWW2v2 was released and it was the last release with TGN and at that time nobody was even thinking about redoing the modern game.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Sounds like you may have a problem with your browser, the graphic loads just fine with IE8, IE9 and Google Chrome.
Feel free to delete my post, as currently I believe we are unable to edit or delete forum posts after about 5 minutes or something, unless it's an OP.
