downloading mods
is there some trick to downloading mods? i tried, and there was no mod folder in my dom directory. i created one, then downloaded cbm into it, but tried to access it with adobe(i know, dumb dumb dumb).
this seemed to corrupt the dm file. so i deleted the whole thing and tried to re download. the computer seems to think it is still there, as it asks if i want to delete the original file(odd, as i just deleted it).
so i do. but then, when i go to the mod file, it is not there. sprites and item folder are there, but no actual mod.
been doing this for awhile. literally about to pound my head off a wall.
wtf am i doing wrong here, computer guys?

Re: downloading mods
the dm file goes into the mods folder. You probably have o create it. I dont recall.
dm files cannot be opened unless you associate them with some program. You can see them with notepad.
Anyway you dont need to see them at all. You activate them from the game. In Preferences>mod preferences

Re: downloading mods
well, it is odd. i download the file into the mod folder, but when i look in the mod folder, the file is not there. never had this problem with any file before.
the file is zipped, right? i have to decompress it? but of course it would have to actually be there...

Re: downloading mods
Though it would be nice to know which OS you're using.
Eg. on Linux you extract the mod to ~/dominions3/mods (in your home directory).
Usually a mod contains a .dm file which needs to be in ~/dominions3/mods and if the mods have extra stuff it contains a sub directory.
Double click should automatically open the .dm file with the text editor application.

Sounds like the download is either corrupted or didn't finished. Are you sure it was save to the mod folder?

Re: downloading mods
You could try downloading it to another place and then unzipping it (if it's a .zip file) there, to remove any doubt about whether you're replacing a corrupt file or whatever. Then you could move the resulting files to the right place in your mods directory. When you're moving things around using Windows or whatever it's relatively easy to see and be confident about what's going where. It sounds like your problem is happening before that, though, when you're downloading the thing?

Re: downloading mods
yeah. i download the file, and it says "download complete. open folder?"
i click yes, and then it says, "this folder is empty"
odd.
i can download the file to a different folder. but it is a dm file, and im not sure how to decompress it.
i am running windows, is it possible i downloaded a linux file? i got the file directly from llamabeasts link.
many thanks to all who have offered opinions

Re: downloading mods
banandine, that did the trick. decompressed it in the "download" folder, and then rerouted it to the dom/mods subdirectory.
still, that was really wierd. i gotta say, i am not a huge fan of microsoft windows. it's like there are a bunch of gremlins running around in there. what works today may not work tommorrow...
thanks again
