Phased Shields
How do they work?
Are they any good?
I was looking in the components.txt file in the data folder, I can't see where they are that much better than regular shields.

Re: Phased Shields
Phased Polaron Beam skips past normal shields as though they are not there but are stopped by Phased Shields.

Re: Phased Shields
Against a human opponent I Suggest using Phased shields.
- level 5 Phased shields provide 375 of shielding per component... the normal level 5 shield only provides 300 per component

Re: Phased Shields
What about other shield-skipping weapons? Do Phased Shields affect, say, the Temporal Shifter or Null-Space Projector? The data files claim these "Skip Shields and Armor", while the Phased-Polaron Beams say "Skips Normal Shields". So my guess would be that the Temporal Shifter and Null-Space Projector skip phased shields too... kind of a nasty surprise, eh?
I think the engine-damaging and weapon-damaging weapons also skip both normal and phased shields, but I haven't tested those either...

Re: Phased Shields
Phased shields only stop phased polaron beams. Engine damaging, shield generator damaging, weapon damaging, temporal, and null space weapons all ignore phased shields.

Re: Phased Shields
There is a "Skips All Shields" ability in the game, just no current weapons in the default technologies that use it. I've added a new weapon to the top of the Phased Energy Weapons field in my custom set that uses it. So, keep researching that field and you can even ignore Phased Shields!

Why not just use the null space projector, since it skips shields and armor to boot? I think it would cost less to research as well. Is this new weapon of yours less expensive than the null projector maybe? Does it have longer range too?
