Default Another drone bug?

I suspect this one is known to all the veteran players, but just in case, I'll describe it here anyway.

In the game I just finished, I noticed that once I hit the unit limit I couldn't launch anything more into space (that came as a shocker since I didn't expect to hit the 1500 unit limit I set). This put a serious crimp in my drone attack plans. Anyway, I noticed that when I went to the ships screen and selected a drone from there, I could in fact send it off to attack a target. So this appears to be a "workaround" for the unit limit--or is it a bug?

Umm, "went to the ships screen"?
What screen are you talking about here?

If I'm not mistake he is talking about the Ships/Units screen, quick key F6 in game. That's what I'm gathering anyways...

Or maybe tactical combat? You can always launch units in tactical combat, no matter what the strategic limit is like.

Hmm, I suppose that's possible. In the huge galaxy games I play it's quite easy to lose track of units (and I've never even tried using ministers of any sort--I just can't imagine that the AI will make creative or intelligent decisions so I would never trust it). I'll try to pay closer attention next time and confirm that for myself.

Silent, that's neither a workaround or a bug. Drones don't show up in the ships/unit screen until they have been launched. What happened there is you launched some drones and forgot about them and never gave them a target. So they were sitting idle at the point they were launched. Or they were targeted but lost their target before they could complete their mission and were sitting idle somewhere between the launch and target points. Using the ship/unit screen merely allowed you to "find" them again and give them targets. If you had happened upon them while looking at the system maps you could have targeted them from there too. So you haven't "got around" the units launch limit there, they were already launched.
