If maintainence costs were lower it would be economical to robo-mine,and to offset the lower maintainence cost, ships (not units or facilities) would need to cost more.

Yes of course if you raised ship costs too much it would just have the same effect.

Yeah, we can remote mine with satellite Groups. I usually don't though, just because I don't like to waste time researching large satellites.

I have not tried remote mining in a while, but didn't the latest patch fix the problem where only one satellite in a group mines?

The "history" file for the patch under Version 1.14 (one of the intermediate beta test Versions in between publicly released Versions 1.11 and 1.19) says:

4. Fixed - A satellite group cannot remote mine with all of the satellites present.

I took this to mean that if you put a group containing a large number of remote mining satellites, every remote mining component will produce.

Has anybody tested this? I'm in the process of updating my V1.19 files with the changes I made in V1.11, so I can't run just now.

I remote mined with a battle station. It seemed the best way to put a lot of robominers in.
I seem to recall having maintenance of abour 800, and income of around 1400
