www.strategy-gaming.com made a review of SE IV that is unbelievle. I think they never played the game. Very good AI they say, good multiplayer lol, audio 6.5 out of 10,and so on. It's because of people that read reviews like this one and then buy and play that some folks are always complaining, which is not my case.
I like the game but must be honest to point what's good and what's bad...

most reviewers are totally stoned. once you read a review page for a while, you get so you can sort of interperate their reviews, since their oppinions are often based on things normal people find completely irrevalant. GameCenter likes to give games failing reviews because they lack some function without a patch. I think this is totally BS, since 99% of comercial games require some sort of patch to work with every sound card, video card, or just work in general.

go figure.

I really hate the "state of the art graphics" reviewers. I have seen a dis-proportionate amount of bad gameplay, non-existent AI and just plain stupid interfaces get by or in fact, praised, because the graphics were great, 3d zillion mip yada yada. Give me gameplay and reviewers that actually play.

Man, what a - favoriable - review. I too have to wonder if they played the game. but hey, any positive coverage for SEIV is great in my book.

Yes, I also have seem some reviews that call SE4 to have "good AI". Where? GamesDomain comes to mind.

I think I sent in an email protesting right after the 1st patch (v1.11?) came out.
They reviewed it before the patch, but even with the new patch, the AIs are still weak.

I don't have anything against SE4, in fact I love this game, but I just can't stand it reading those BS reviews on the net.

Well, to be honest, I think you guys are full of it if you think this game does not have good AI. No offense.
These reviewers are right on this subject. I have never seen most AIs in other games do half the stuff this game does. I realize the AI still has a lot of issues, but the fact is that if you compare it to any other game even remotely similar to this one, the AI is much much better.
But I think you guys keep comparing it to what an ideal AI would do, which is just stupid, since the ideal AI is human. This game will never have AI good enough to beat all you experts out there 100% of the time. Its impossible. But for the average gamer who does not take advantage of every single loophole or AI idiosynchrosy to win, this AI is quite challanging.
The AI is quite good, for an AI, and I really think you guys should try to realize that it is just that, artificial intelligence. It does not cheat, it does not automatically gang up on human players, and yet it still manages to give a good game, and it will wipe you out if you are not paying attention. And yes, it can be improved, and it will be. But as it stands, its the most capable and challanging AI I have ever encountered.

Apache, agree with you entirely. The AI does have a number of blind sides but, those aside, it is far more challenging that most other AI's I have come across too.
If the reviewer had played say only three or four games, he probably would have gotten beaten in a couple of them, particularly if he played in small galaxies (in large galaxies experienced players know that the AI does not expand fast enough)....
