And therefore it will aim its troops for these, as well as plotting arty and air strikes on them etc. It may also mess up it's calculations for throwing in the towel for early end of game, and so on. Exiting the map edge results in the removal of the unit that takes any such hex as well.
Therefore any unused V-hexes you must be stacked on top of another valid used one on the map -
as we state in the game guide.
Your described usage is in PBEM, where your opponent is a human, and so should not go for them. Unless of course he's
really dense...
