Question about Gold AI
I have the original, and was wondering if the gold Version was worth purchasing to play against a better AI? Should I pay for a better AI or just download some mods for the original?
Thanks

Re: Question about Gold AI
I'll let you know my thoughts:-
Purchase Gold if you wish to play more humans on PBW.
I missed out on the tournament because I only have 1.49
If you only have 1.49, quickly sign up for the 'Force of Alliance' Game on PBW and that will quickly let you know how good you are. If you lose, never mind, the Empire was a lose to begin with.
The AI is very similar, make sure you are playing the TDM AI however. Someone else will let you know the other benefits of Gold, like Drones, etc.

Re: Question about Gold AI
The standard AI in Gold also makes a few better decisions. The TDM Gold AI can really cause you trouble especially if you encounter them early and they have a little bonus. Every once in a while, you'd be suprised by something they'll do.

Re: Question about Gold AI
The AI in Gold is much better than in Classic SE4.

But major point of Gold is not just better AI - there are many more fixtures that make such mods as Proportions, Derek' mod, several "mount mods" possible.

Re: Question about Gold AI
Thank you all for your opinions. I think I will GO FOR THE GOLD!!! I know the AI wont be the greatest thing invented since sliced bread, but if it is better then it is worth it. And yes, all the other bennies are good too.
Thank you all for your help and maybe someday I'll see you in a PBW (which of course I still dont know what the W stands for... wire maybe??)

Re: Question about Gold AI
PBW stands for "Play by Web"

Re: Question about Gold AI
So I purchased the gold Version, and installed the TDM mod and I enjoy it quite a bit. Thank you for encouraging me to buy the gold Version.
My new question is this: After reading which AI races are the most challenging I set them up as players in the game, but they are all set to human players. How do you pick which races to be in the game as computer controlled? I could have just played one turn as them being human, then cliked on the player tab and set them to computer, but this doesnt seem to be the optimal way.
How exactly do you pick races to be computer controlled to your new game?
Thanks

You have to add them, then select them and click the "edit race" box. From there, you need to make sure "under compter control" and "using style from race" are both selected.

You must also go to "empire options" and set all ministers on. Otherwise AI will do nothing. But the best way is as Phoenix-D said - after adding empire, edit it "under computer control" and "use style from the race".
