Phoenix Pyre odd damage

Playing late age abysia.

I thought the phoenix pyre explosion did fire damage. My dead abysian infantry says it doesn't. The manual states 50 points of armor piercing damage. It says nothing about the damage being fire. Fair enough.

But it cant be 50 AP damage. None of the 7-prot militia or 16 prot abysians in the attached screenshot takes more than 13 damage.

Anyone know exactly what it does?
