You know pay to play. The game itself costs like $20 and you get 1-3 months free. After that it costs so much a month to play. There are several of these games out there right now. Such as EverQuest, Dark Space, Shattered Galaxy, etc. They have a persistent universe. The subscription is to provide funds for maintaining multiplayer servers and updates.
