if i remote mine, i use bases, not ships. they can carry a lot more miner's and have half the maintanence cost. unless you meant to include bases in 'ships'?
Then there's the "can the mining vessel leave the area if an enemy approaches" or the "one must take the time to have a shipyard ship do the building at the location" discussions to be considered.
