Default Succubus Hit Points

I know I'm new...but I thought I was making serious progress toward figuring the game out until today...

I summoned a succubus. It had about 60 or so hps when summoned into my 10 dominion. Gift of health is up.

I then move it (with lots of nice items including one artifact) into the province controlled by Bogus and crew, thinking it would be nice to gain control of one of these "experienced heroes" and to fight them one at a time with a buffed assassin. I gave the succubus some blood slaves for distraction purposes. That part worked well.

But the succubus' hit points seem to go down every turn. And I can't figure out why. My dominion in the area is going up or staying constant, so that can't be the reason.

She doesn't have any battle afflictions. And I can't think of any reason why her hps would go down every turn.

Is there something basic I just don't get? They were 42 Last turn in dominion of +2. they are now 39 or so. And the trend is always downward.

I am starting to think blood summons don't stick around forever? But that doesn't sound right.
