Default [OT] DROD means challange

Hi.

I tend to lurk in this forum a lot, but unfortunatelly don't have enough time to play MP games. So I stick to SP.

Thus, there was no need for registration. You seem sufficiently curious to provide more Dom2 info I can possibly need.

Then it struck me: such analytic people would make perfect DROD players ! DROD stands for Deadly Rooms Of Death, and is a great old-school puzzle game. Single player only. It's free. There are many Versions including Linux and more. It's deffinitely the most fun and challanging puzzle game I have ever played. It's good when you're somewhat tired after making Last Dom2 turn for 30 minutes .

Some specifics:
DROD is 100% turn-based game. It's very logical even if it doesn't look like that at first. This is because you control Beethro, "ugly man with an oversized sword". Your job is to clear all the dungeon levels of nasty monsters.Each level consists of a number of rooms, connected in various ways. Each room means one screen. Once you kill all the monsters in a room, you can leave it and the monsters won't come back. If you leave some alive, they will respawn if you re-enter the room.
Again, the game is turn based. You have unlimited time to plan each move. There's no life limit so even if you die, you can replay the room from scratch of from checkpoint (not always available).
If you clear all the rooms on a level, you are free to descend to next level.

The game is square-based. Each thing occupies one square (walls, Beethro, floor, trapdoors, monsters, orbs, pits, Beethro's sword... etc)
You make a move, then all the monsters move (sometimes there aren't any). It sounds simple... yet trust me, it's VERY challanging and still fair and playable. Finishing all the 25 of standard rooms is something to be proud of. (I'm trying to solve 23rd now). Important thing to note is that most of the times each room presents fresh, interesting and often not-so-easy to grasp concept.

You can clear rooms basically in what order you like. There are often many ways to conquer a room. In 2 levels, there are shortcuts allowing to skip particularly nasty levels.

There are numerous interesting dungeon elements, monsters which behave in different manner (althrough all but one can be killed with one hit, it's not that easy... in open area, 3 "lowly" goblins are considered death sentence... you're welcome to find out why)

The game is still in development. I mean, Version 1.6 is out, but new Version is going to feature more elements, better music&graphics, and new gameplay in general.

The best proof the game is not overhyped is the devoted community of players , making great use of built-in level editor. They may be a bit weird, but are smart fellows :-)
