Well, we're 11 human players, and since there have been only 1 or 2 small wars so far (turn 2407.4) we have a lot of ships, units and resources - this means a lot of orders to impart each turn and thus an increase in size of the .plr files. The 2 largest players have about 120/130 ships each (their .plr files are 39 Kb and 38 Kb).
