whacks job, book says
Jimmy Hoffa is not under the floorBoards of a Detroit home - but his blood might be.
Police tore up parts of the floor yesterday, hoping to end a 29-year mystery over the fate of the former Teamsters president.
The house is where an upcoming book says one of Hoffa's trusted lieutenants, Frank Sheeran, claimed in a deathbed confession that he shot and killed the once-powerful union boss before hauling him to an incinerator.
"Frank Sheeran actually pulled the trigger," said Charles Brandt, a Sheeran attorney who wrote the book.
Investigators went to the house after Fox News Channel said it found traces of blood there.
The 62-year-old Hoffa disappeared July 30, 1975, after meeting with several mobsters, including New Jersey Teamsters powerhouse Anthony (Tony Pro) Provenzano and Sheeran, who headed a Detroit local.
A sitdown was supposed to happen at a restaurant where Hoffa's green Pontiac was found unlocked in the parking lot.
According to Sheeran's tale, a car picked up Hoffa and took him to the house searched yesterday. In a deathbed confession Last year, Sheeran claimed he shot Hoffa two times behind the right ear on orders of Mafia leaders who wanted to keep Hoffa from regaining power.
Oakland County, Mich., prosecutor David Gorcyca said chemical tests on the Boards were inconclusive, and he is "a little skeptical." But, he said: "If we can find sufficient DNA to analyze, and it matches Hoffa, then it would lend a tremendous amount of credibility to Sheeran's story."
