Easiest way is to just have a TV-in card in your computer. Some video cards have them built in, or you get a separate card. No tapes necessary.

Nah, they have no choice but to be saved, due to
Firefox being set to never play them in the browser. It's more about the overall poor quality of the format and annoyance with Apple trying to ram it down our throats at every chance they get for years... Good thing the encrypted codec format was cracked...
