Battle - Map Bug

When doing a battle, the game picks a map most appropriate for the two opponents. Say US Army vs Germany. The map is set in Germany. But I want a desert battle between those two, so I go to "view map" in the buying screen. Then I click "Change Map ID" and enter "12" for "Middle East". The hill structure is indeed changed to a "Middle East" type map, but the grass remains, so it's not a real desert location.
