Default Curiosity about air transport

I'm making an airport scenario. I purchased some air transport units from the misc section of the purchase area. They appear on the map when in the editor. I'm able to place them on the map with no problem.

But when I start the scenario, they are not there. The opposing troops never find them I move them right into the hexes where I've located them and there is nothing.

I am using one on the other side as a transport to land troops on the same airfield. Now that is the human player side. It appears just fine. But the AI aircraft (I've had these with move factors and without) never do.

I'm going to try it from the AI side and see if they appear.

So is their purpose simply to carry troops. So far none of them appear in the "replace" menu so you can't switch them out.

I guess you could buy them and the paras separate and use them in that way.

But can you make them appear on a map for the AI side as parked aircraft?

Thanks in advance.
