Aux switch for making a Campaign

I was trying to place together a scenrio and began to wonder how to use the 'AUX' switch. I know it's for assigning units to a campaign as reenforcements for the units a player already has fielded, but have no idea of how to properly use it or what restrictions there maybe for it's use.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter please?
