Q. about LavaWarriors

I am playing regular Abysia with heat index 3. I am in my home province where the heat is currently+3 as most of my provinces are.

My Lava Warriors all have defense of 7. When I right clcik it says Basic defense: 10, Heat: +3, Current Defense:7

Why would heat, that I prefer, reduce their defense?

Is it related to their bereserking???
