Shade researchers on map screen

Hi fellas. I know you can hide researchers in the army setup with tab. But, both myself and my bro both swear we can remember being able to shade or otherwise hide researchers on the map screen. This might have been from Dom2 but I seem to recall it for Dom3 as well ... was this possible?
