So, I did something this weekend I haven't done in close to a year and a half if I recall correctly. I actually played a game of SEIV single player!
It is amazing how addictive it is. I had intended to only play a few turns, but ended up burning about 5 hours between Saturday and Sunday. Where did the time go?
No, the AI isn't very challanging compared to human players, but it was still fun. They weren't complete pushovers. In fact, while I am in first place after about 150 turns, player 2 isn't that far behind me. He's got about 90% of my score, so I may have a fight on my hands when I go up against him. It probably would have been worse for me had I altered the quadrant file a bit. I got a lucky starting position sitting between a black hole and another dead system.
