What's your favourite race?

Elwood, I will let Daynarr and Mephisto speak to specifics about their mods - but (generally) all three races contained in Mod Pack 1.00 have had all of their AI files tweaked, including, but not limited to the following:

(1) Selection of planets
(2) Designs of ships
(3) Research queues
(4) Construction queues
(5) Anger and political reactions
(6) Speech files changed
(7) and a myriad of other changes designed to make them more aggresive and capitalize on their specific research, construction and design strategy.

In addition to the above, Mephisto modified the "design" and "settings" files to all the other original races to delete some bugs and make them more efficient.


However, overall "strategy" and overall increased attacks cannot be directly modified. You influence these two factors by telling the AI what to colonize (AI_Planet_Types), what to build on those colonies (AI_Construct_Facilities), how to design ships/units (AI_DesignCreate), what and how many vehicles to construct (AI_Construct_Vehicles), what/when to research certain techs (AI_Research) and how to react to other players (AI_Politics and AI_Anger). It is the combination of all these (as well as numerous in-game, hard-coded modules that we are still trying to figure out) that will dictate overall strategy. Based on the combined efforts of all the modders on this board, everyone has made suggestions to Aaron that would make these files even more powerful (some easy/some hard changes), but we will see what the next patch does. I use many different ones. My favorite ship sets are the Pyrochette, United Floran, Gron, and Voidshark's purple ships which will soon (hopefully) be a part of the Darlok mod. I have a couple of races that I designed for myself that I play regularly, but I'm a bit more than 50% likely to use a new race creation on any given game.

My favorite race to play is a republic with elitist nobles who love bringing slaves back to a world near their home. I try very hard to get at least a few slaves of each other race in the game and I drop them all on some Ice world with no atmosphere in my home system. This world get's renamed Menagerie. Every now and again a large population transport takes a tiny number of people from Homeworld to Menagerie as the nobles go on vacation and enjoy poking around their slaves. They also keep a mothballed fleet of captured enemy ship designs to look through and take their kids to see so that they grow up knowing how vastly superior they are to any other life form. After they get "enough" slaves they tend to commit genocide with plage weapons. They also like to build suicide bombers (ramming ships) and things like that on slave worlds (crewed by slaves of course). I usually use the Pyrochette shipset for them because the race portrait looks like an Illithid from AD&D and that's about how mind flayer's work. This race uses both the psychic and temporal tech trees and are artisans.

I've been using a variation of these guys since SE3, but I'm still working on a name for them and I tweak the starting settings often enough that I don't even have an .emp file for myself.
