No, it is impossible. One of the reason is crystalline races can build multiple suns in the system and overproduce anybody using solar plants.
Another reason is "realism" - when star is created, it uses all available matter in the system. Nothing is left for another. Existence of binary systems can be explain that they were creted practically simultaneously, splitting the matter.
