I really don't think you can blame society for this for putting too much 'value' on superstars. I think we want and need heros. Watching atheletes like Beckie Scott win and the joy they get from it is one of the things I truely enjoy. We expect them to play fair. I'd like to think that for the most part they do. No one wants to be a Ben Johnson. I'm am surprised that some stil get caught though. You would think the humiliation and career ending potential of getting caught would make them think twice
