But think 1 vs 1 is more fair to determine who is the best player in terms of SEIV skills.
Sure, in games with more players does exist other elements, like diplomacy of course. But very often, I saw 2 or more guys attacking other, just because they think he's the best player, or just because he had the bad luck to do not find an ally.
IMHO, the SE4 Rating System and KOTH are the best way to measure the skill of the players.

Obviously my brother ! He's the best player i had ever met, he easily defeats me, and i'm a good experienced ex beta tester player.
Another incredible player ? Thomas Pfister! I encountered him only once, but he hit me a lot. However, only a real challenge may say us who is the best player ;-D

Think you should join to the SE4 Rating system and play 1vs1 games or a game with 5-10-15-20 players: you may find many other great players...

The SE4 Rating System and KOTH are also good structures for generating games.
Mauro, one of the problems with triathlons is that the required events limit the potential pool of participants and severely limit the pool of potentially interested participants. IMO, your range of events might be similarly constraining.

Mauro, one of the problems with triathlons is that the required events limit the potential pool of participants and severely limit the pool of potentially interested participants. IMO, your range of events might be similarly constraining. I really don't think so ! MY idea was based on a first phase with 4 games... how many players now writing on these forums plays 4 or more games at the same time? (lots of them!) .. I said these 4 games should take place in a small galaxy with a limited number of players (6)... just in order to make them another time LIGHTER (in time and micromanagement of great empires costs). So i don't think that the problem is TIME. May be we will loss some players, but the bigger part of them (if really interested) will only have not to join other normal games while playing the tourney.
ON 1Vs1 and Multiple players game :
I don't think 1vs1 as a completely bad setting of play, but i think that diplomacy, trade, variety of enemies/allies and the fact you don't necessary have to mantain your empire under war status all the time are more interesting than a deathmatch. And the ability of a complete se4 player is, IMO, the ability of change game situation continously (anf it happens more frequently with multple players game when there are more brains working in the same game at the same time! - AI is not a brain as you all know )

Re: SE4 World Championship ?
Good idea Mauro but way too ambitious. With KOTH and the Rating Bash going on (+ a few fun games) there is no way I would have had the time to join
Also, the winner of any 5 - 20 player games is almost down to pure luck. Sure, the winner will be a good player, but with such high stakes everybody would gang up on the favourites at the start. The only true test of playing skills comes from one-on-one games (or games with pre-set teams).
Give the Rating System another half year, and you will find most of the contenders for the "Greatest players of the galaxy" on the top (Stone is still AWOL though).
