Re: OT: Best D&D RPG Game?
so far? 7. it's fun, but so far it hasn't done anything much to distinguish itself from any other of it's type. it hasn't done anything much to seem worse. except the interface. there's three function key's to hit, F1-12, shift F1-12 and ctrl F1-12. you can use these for pretty much any action, including text macros and emotions. right click on something and your available options come up in a circle around it. i'm not sure if i'll like it; sometimes the surounding icons are hard to pick out of the background, but it may end up being fast. you can queie up options while paused. the game lacks a true top-down view and tends to sufer from the walls-blocking-view-syndrome. i don't think they go transparent, either.

constant "So and so wants to talk" interuptions really detract from the game.

Umm.... interacting with the characters in the game is a major factor of it being a RPG.

Re: OT: Best D&D RPG Game?
Hit pageup and pagedown to change the camera angle. You can get topdown.
Sorcerer/Wizard seems like a silly combo to me... you are reducing your spellcasting potential, halving the level of spell you can cast... you can always rest, you know.
I believe that monks can gain levels while multiclassing.
The speed you move depends on how far away you click the mouse. If you hold the mouse button down, you will continue to move in whatever direction the arrow points. Move the arrow far away, you run. Have it right up next to you, you walk.
I have always been able to distinguish the radial menu buttons fine from the background. Maybe your gamma is too high? Or too low?

well, thirding, once i get my third class. but my character will be able to cast a truely impressive number of low-level spells.

Re: OT: Best D&D RPG Game?
It's been so long since I even looked at NWN. I completed the first section, and am now exploring the town. That's as far as I've gone. In TOEE, I haven't even made it on the first quest to find teh mayor (or whoever it's supposed to be). Even though I love rpg's, I just don't have that kind of time right now to devote to them (try having a 3 year old and you'll see why). It's easier for me just to do a few turns of SE4G.

Re: OT: Best D&D RPG Game?
confirmed, monks can multiclass. gamehack is usefull. no, i didn't mess up my real character.
complaint: the demo is to short. it's really just a tutorial, not a demo. on the other hand, i do want to buy the game, so i suppose it worked.
i wonder if it's in stores. i got money right now...

Re: OT: Best D&D RPG Game?
Yes it is. Do NOT buy NWN original or Shadows of Undrentide expansions separately. Most stores (well, all of them in my area, at any rate) sell them for 30 dollars a piece. The Gold Edition has both of those combined for 40 dollars. Make sure to get the Hordes of the Underdark expansion as well if you can afford to get it.
