The thing is, and perhaps someone with some legal skill could address this, if the material can be downloaded for free, why can it not be burned to a cd and given away for free? The only cost would be the cost of the cd, jewel case and shipping. No profit would be made. I guess it goes back to distribution of copy righted material, but like I said, downloading it from a web site is also considered distribution.
The material can not be downloaded for free from the owner of the copyrights, as it was taken out of game installs... most of it, anyways... |

Its offered at a risk right now. Just a smaller one. All the copywritten images that you haven't gotten permission for are illegal to distribute in any form.

If such a system could be developed, I'd pay $10 (or whatever fee is charged), for an occassional cd full of SEIV stuff. I'm doing that myself. After I d/l a file, it goes to my SEIV folder, and then I make a copy of that file and put it on my SEIV cd. I sure wish I had cd-r/w on my old computer. It makes a world of difference.

This might be a way to fund the PBW site! For a donation to PBW you get a CD Disk of Mods and stuff.
As to the copyrighted images - have someone determine which are copyrighted and leave them out. THEN have a downloadable patch available somewhere to add these back in...
OR (maybe...)
You can modify the copyrighted images SLIGHTLY and then use them. I hardly think anyone would take the time and expense to try to prove that these non-identical images are copyright infringements.

A more tedious route would be to create original images and meshes based off the copyrighted images. Those images can then be distributed in the public domain so long as you state that those images were based on something else.
