Agreed, it is up to discussion how much better MS Office is than Open Office. But as you mentioned, it's for free... and, another big plus, you're not feeding M$ when using it
Plus, it definitely IS better than Word Perfect
One nice feature in Word Perfect was the ability to see the formatting code and make changes. Word likes to format the document itself and doesn't allow many of the changes I would like to make (such as revising indents, etc.)
Yep. There's a pretty steep learning curve to Word Perfect. It's not too bad once you get used to its ideosyncracies. After two or three years, that is.

I have used open office and have found it to be a very good program. However it does have a long ways to go before it can match up to MS OFFICE.
I have installed Office 2k on this POS HP machine, and ran one update. I should probibly order the updates on disk, but by the time it gets here, OFFICE 05 will be out.
