Re: Remote mining reduces production?
I have found that remote mining is totally worthless. The cost in maintenance (for ships) makes them either break-even, or come out barely ahead, but not enought to make it worth it. And by the time I research the large satalites my production is high enough that I don't need remote mining. I think the output need to be higher, the cost reduced, the size reduced, or any combination of the three.

Re: Remote mining reduces production?
I've been using remote mining in my MOD, and it's been quite profitable. A single space station loaded with robo-miners averages an 1700 minerals profit with asteroids over 100%. My MOD has maintanence set to 15%. I might have decreased the cost of mining components, or increased their production, but I'll have to check.

Re: Remote mining reduces production?
In my opinion there should be an official change to this. Like making the production 2x or 3x of what it normally does so there is a reason to do remote mining. That would also make a reason to fortify astroid systems which would add a new dimension to the game.

Re: Remote mining reduces production?
There is a mod with a prospector ship and a minning base available with tech Deep Space Minning, that makes remote mining profitable. Best idea I saw, so I use that idea, but would like it added to the official release.

Re: Remote mining reduces production?
If your ship only had Mineral miners, do all 3 types go down?
that would be weird

Re: Remote mining reduces production?
No, it only goes down for the resource mined... so if you built a StarBase with 24 Mineral Miners over an asteriod field having 144%/81%/101%, then after six turns, you would have an asteroid field with 0%/81%/101% (probably should either scrap or retrofit at this point )

Re: Remote mining reduces production?
Argh! That's not how it works, it only goes down 1% per turn, like Raynor mentioned previously.
