If you do that you just have to be -really- careful of where you right click in the ship interface. Don't want to trigger your engine at the wrong time.

So there really is an ability like this.To use it i have to right click ( amm what, shields, armors and engines? )

So it would be in ship interface window, haa? Wouldn't that jettison the object?

If that would only destroy the engines then that would be perfect because it gives the crew something to do. (repairs)

I like turning, acceleration idea. By the way, does the game have a cloaking device? It does have tachyon sensors but do they actually have any use?

No, the tacyon sensors don't have any use. MM was going to add cloaking and a lot of other things but apparently those plans fell through.

If you use a "destroyed on use" component, it isn't just destroyed- it vanishes. No repairs possible.

I have not tried to mod SF yet, so my comment below may be silly ^_^

Curious, can you fake an afterburner using weapon properties? I'm thinking of an fake weapon with no visual graphics (so as not to appear confusing) that will generate accelerationg (can weapons do this) and drain energy when fired (need to tweak its duration to allow long term firing/accelerating).

You can tie it to weapon bank 4 by default (I think most people use at most 2 or 3 banks anyway..) to make it simple. One foresseable problem is that weapons require a lock to fire iirc, so unless that can be altered, this idea is useless

Just a fleeting and possibly uselessthought

No, I don't think weapons can provide acceleration... recoil guns like the Druuge had in Star Control would be cool though
