Re: Targeted Rainbow - nifty!
LOL!!
SC pretenders... Edwards truely is that, a pretender to the throne (or nomination, take your pick ) Too bad really, he has a much higher electibility quotient than Kerry does, but no matter, once the money comes out I think we know what will happen to the Democratic whipping boy...
McCain Feinstien needs more teeth, or any teeth for that matter... Cripes how I've wandered from the topic...
I often do target my rainbows for specific searches, or I just stick them with 2 in any path where I want to cast the site search spell that my national mages don't get, though that's not as effective (usually) as sending them out on a searching spree, I'm really digging Caelum these days, flying rainbow searchers from turn 1... now that's a good thing (friggin Virtue has too high path costs...)

Re: Targeted Rainbow - nifty!
For the record:
To find 75% of all magic sites, you need 2 in everything except Astral, Holy, and Unholy (3 in those).
To find 90% of all magic sites, you need 3 in everything except Fire, Holy, and Unholy (2/4/4 respectively).
With the 75% magic numbers, you'll be able to find 326/386 sites (85%). With the 90% magic numbers, you'll find 370/386 (96%).

Is there a list of "site rarities", or are they all the same rarity?

Re: Targeted Rainbow - nifty!
I haven't looked at the site list, because I have more fun wondering and being surprised when I find something new.
Maybe IW should add and subtract a few random search requirements to many of the sites when each map is generated, to mess up such over-analysis.

Re: Targeted Rainbow - nifty!
Here's what I do:
Water 2/3, Astral 3
Convert all gems to water, make that little clam of pearls like mad, research to conjuration 5, cast Acashic Record like it’s going out of style. I also play the Arco's which is nice to have astral casters...
This can get really expensive so researching Enchantment to cast Mother Oak (requires N lvl. 5 caster) and Eternal Pyre (Lvl. 6) to at least be able to convert gems into.
I start with a Lvl. 2 in E, A, W, F and 2 in D (skull mentor), and 4 in S/N (I will either empower to N5 or make items that can give me the boost)... Once I reach conjuration 5 and enchantment 5 I am never without gems and have some good spells to continue my exploits.

Re: Targeted Rainbow - nifty!
PhilD,
You make a good point. It seems to me that not all sites are of equal rarity. Which...when you are talking about find X% of sites, you would need to know. I care more about finding a certain percentage of extant sites than I do about finding a certain percentage of TYPES of sites.
