Would this be the same as a dedicated site that acts as a 24/7 server for running games (similar to what Mosehansen is doing)?
If you are saying that that should be OFF the wishlist for a game billed as "multiplayer friendly," I would have to disagree.
While the ability for players to host games on machines they are willing to run 24/7 has a certain DIY appeal, there really ought to be an Illwinter/Shrapnel/3rd-party-contractor site to host and run games.
Mosehansen could close up shop anytime he wants too after, all.

Re: Anti-Wishlist
This is the second time I've read about random maps. I looked using the search function and only found more references to them. Am I being blind? Would someone point me in the right direction please?

Gandalf Parker was nice enough to set up this site:
http://www.techno-mage.com/~dominion/Dominions2/
There is some information in the readme.txt file on how to use them.

Actually it would probably be more informative to send them to www.dom2minions.com now that I have some REAL web pages up. Sorry those took so long.
I really need to get back to the small, medium, large groupings like I had with Dom1. So far for Dom2 Im only generating the over-huge epic size.

Ok, I know most of those listed are either done by 3rd parties or can be done by yourself but how does this one fit in? Did you managed to make random generated maps produce random opponents as well?
If so I must congratulate you.

If so I must congratulate you. Yep. http://www.dom2minions.com/Opponents.shtml
There are map commands for designating AI players, and the alliance command no one seems to use. It works better to have a program you can tell to leave out who you want to play. But to make it available to all I had to generate a game for each nation which leaves that nation available. Re-randomized daily.
