Of course not. That's the very definiton of newbie! But this is still what a FAQ is for. When some newbie Posts the same tired old question you don't have to type out an explanation anymore. You just post a one-line reply.

"This is answered in item ## of the FAQ. You can read the FAQ at <Url>."

See? Simple. And the explanation in the FAQ will be detailed and well written so that the newbies understand properly. Meaning it will be better for them, too. You never know if the answer that someone tosses off "the top of their head" will be a good one or not.
