Re: ulm black forest
We can't vote yet but...
I think you'll want blood magic on your pretender so you can cast sanguine heritage (its a national spell) to make vampire counts. Its an important part of ulm BF.

Re: ulm black forest
You have nice scales, but I'm not sure if those are the optimum magics for Black Forest. The Sanguine Heritage is quite a good spell, so you would want both Death and Blood on your pretender. Nature 2 or 3 would be enough to get higher with boosters, especially if your pretender had Astral and could forge Moonvine Bracelet. However, Astral isn't that important, and could be risky for a combatant pretender unless she was immortal. Speaking of immortal SCs with Blood and Death, Vampire Queen is pretty close to optimum. With two new paths getting high enough dominion to use her and Vampire Counts from Sanguine Heritage would be harder (Dominion 4 with B and D 3, and two others at levels 3 and 2), so you would probably have to take few more negative scales.
Also, you took positive production. Use it. Rangers are very good, much better than villains in most cases. I don't think advancing through Wolfherders is fast enough, but the wolves can be quite good support units and arrow fodder, and they are fast.

Re: ulm black forest
thank you as for sanguine heritage I did not know about this and as for villains the only reason I use them is because they can shoot every turn.
the wolves I use as fodder for my defense they run in kill a few people or slow them down and suck up arrows too.
ghoul guardians are good if I have and unholy priest so that he can protect them from banishment
here is a formation for my main army:
* god % wolves
^ ghoul guardians ! mages
$ archers £ infantry of ulm
. spaces

ASCII stands for 'American Standard Code for Information Interchange'
No, not being sarcastic. I have a nostalgic appreciation for ascii (and similar) diagrams.

Re: ulm black forest
ASCII is a way of saving/encoding/keeping track of the letters of the alphabet, both big and small. ASCII and its predecessors are needed to make writing possible. Roguelike games, like Adom or Dungeon Crawl mentioned in the Newbie's First Impressions thread, use ASCII instead of graphics. Player character is presented by @, orc might be o, ogre O, dragon D, Demons in Crawl are presented by numbers 9-through-1 with smaller being more powerful, etc.

You put your fastest troops, the Wolves, out in front. I like to create a formation that will allow all melee troops to meet the enemy at roughly the same time. Try putting the infantry front and center and the Wolves back and to one side. Give all of them Hold and Attack Closest orders. Then the infantry will meet the enemy forces in the middle and the Wolves will hit them from the side.
