Make sure you play with the Worthy Heroes Mod too. Then, when you actually do get a hero, you are really psyched! |

 | I agree many of the default heroes in DOM_3... are not really heroes.

				 Re: Getting Heroes to appear
Quite a lot of nations only have one or even no heroes. I made a list of heroes in the worthy heroes thread, so maybe you can´t even get a hero if you play oceania for example.

Even if you have a nation with lots of heroes the chance for a hero to appear is really random. I made quite a lot of 400+ turns testgames and even with luck3 it can take 100+ turns until a hero shows up.
In addition it seems as if the chance to get a hero is less than 6% with luck 3 or there are some other modifiers, since no nation got more than the expected one hero per 16 turns and most got significantly less.

Most of the heroes are heroes more in the RPG sense than in the SC (SuperCombatants) sense. They definetly arent Super Heroes.

				 Re: Getting Heroes to appear
Playing MA Ermor, I got the hero who is Ermors executioner, he has a weapon which sends victims to hell, the inferno I think.
However, he is a 8 hp mage! So groovy weapon made utterly useless, as he wouldn't survive in melee very long, even if I kitted him out with magic items galore.

This is rather sad. |

				 Re: Getting Heroes to appear
you could empower him up to 6 astral (9 with items) and have him wish for power... that'd make him more survivable... |

				 Re: Getting Heroes to appear
Most of the non-mage heroes are utterly useless. Some are useful as blessers if you get them early on (like Yasini for Machaka). Some of the mage heroes, especially early era mage heroes, rock.
My favorites so far are Malphas (Abysia), Kirke (Sauromatia), Skögu (Sauromatia), Tjatse (Niefelheim), The One in the Woods (Marverni) and Athalwolf (Ulm). Some of the Helheim heroes were nothing to thumb your nose at either.

Of those, Tjatse is by far the most versatile because not only is he A3D3W3H3 or something like that, he happens to be a Niefel Jarl. On top of being a powerful mage SC chassis, he can shapechange to a Great Eagle with a flying mapmove of 4 so he can get from place to place really quickly even without trapezing.

Kirke was also ridiculously powerful magically and had some very interesting paths compared to Sauromatian norm. Athalwolf is a kick-*** hero for EA Ulm because outside of finding sages or crystal amazons, he's the only way they can get astral magic at all and he also has D2.
