Minor but very useful enhancements:
- all status windows remember scroll location after closing/repopening.
- related to the above, when jumping to a location (e.g. goto from log window, or to a ship from ships window) when you return to the original status window the item you jumped from is visible in the scroll area and highlighted.
- Ships window - show ONLY ships NOT in a fleet.
- when retrofitting a ship, option to use a new ship name based upon the class name retrofitted to. e.g. if I have a design named "Lt Cruiser DUC1 Mk1", and I build a ship with this design which is named "Lt Cruiser DUC1 Mk1 0001", then if I retrofit this ship to a new design named "Lt Cruiser DUC4 Mk1", I would like the retrofitted ship name automatically changed to "Lt Cruiser DUC4 Mk1 0001" or a unique number if 0001 is taken.
- ability to retrofit ships in a fleet (i.e. without having to taken them out of the fleet). Should also be able to scrap them as well)
- when the "entire tech tree" option is turned on, be able to right-click on an item in the tech tree window to get more details (e.g. for a component get the components detail screen as well as other info listed in components.txt)
Medium enhancement:
- ability to retrofit units. For example, you should be able to retrofit ALL weapons platforms on ALL planets using something like the "upgrade facilities" button in the Construction Queues window. Ditto for troops. You should be able to retrofit fighters as you do ships, and retrofit bases and sats if a space yard is present. I would also like to retrofit ALL ships/sats of a given design to a new design similar to the weapons platforms/troops enhancement. Also for all units, when I retrofit all units of a given class I would like to also have the option of updating all contruction queues with old designs to use the new designs. See
Tips for replacing obsolete units?
Major enhancement:
Add "fog-of-war" sight rules similar to Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. For example, in a system you have a limited sight range that could be increased with various facilities or components on ships (e.g. sensors). When processing your turn you would actually view enemy ships as they pass through your sight range. Areas beyond your sight range would appear dimmed (as in SMAC or many RTS games). This would work even better if Jmenschenfresser's idea of larger systems was added. See an old thread for more on this idea:
