Re: Communion and path boosting
The communicants can only be communion slaves. The crystal matrixes are to make mages unskilled in astral magic (illusionists and wizards) become communion masters. Astral mages can cast "communion master", but others can't.

IIRC, blood sabbath and communions are compatable.

Re: Communion and path boosting
Actually, I tried using these items and it did not work. I put a master matrix (or whatever it is called) on an Arco Astrologer. I gave slaves matrices to two commanders. The Astrologer's magic stats did not go up. I checked during battle.
I then tried the same thing using two more astrologers with the slaves. No boost.
What am I doing wrong? I ask because I really wanted to use these magic items in this game. I was going to experiment with it this time around.

Re: Communion and path boosting
Communion path boosts don't show up in the unit info IIRC, but should still be in effect. If you want to test it for sure try casting something you couldn't cast normally and see if it works.

Re: Communion and path boosting
I believe that one has to be a mage to provide the communion bonuses.

Re: Communion and path boosting
Yes, the path boosts do seem to effect the phantom paths of the slaves. Here's the test I ran:
Sabbath master has fire magic
4 sabbath slaves with no fire magic (phantom +2 fire presumably)
Sabbath master casts reinvigoration so the slaves are at 0 fatigue to start the test.
Master casts summon phoenix power (requires 2f, 20 fatigue).
Slave gains 12 fatigue (not sure exactly how the math here works out)
Master casts incinerate (requires 3f, 20 fatigue)
Slave gains another 12 fatigue.
So, again, I'm not entirely sure how the math works out on that but the slave gained the same fatigue for incinerate as he did for phoenix power.
