Re: OT: Rate these games ;)
Starfleet Command is quite nice, imho. Almost no story, no involving metagame or anything, but a very solid tactical space combat engine with competent graphics. It does take some time to get into, but once you got the hang of it, you can experience some very involved and varied tactical combat. And no, I'm no trekkie : )

Re: OT: Rate these games ;)
only played Civ3, after playing se4, civ3 seems a bit simple, and becomes boring very quickly, then there are the limited editing capabilities ...
the one good about civ3 is the AI, well, IMO it's better then the se4 AI (but then again, se4 is more complicated), so in civ3 you can roleplay a lot better, but in one of the patches they made the AI more aggressive, which makes roleplaying more difficult, since most encounters will end in war now .

Re: OT: Rate these games ;)
I like CIV3 alot. You can't just go out and conquer the world so easily anymore, which is why alot of these guys don't like it so much. I have played WIZ8 and it is OK, but I tend to get frustrated easily, so I am finding it slow going If you want a good strategy game you should try Europa Universalis 2. Be warned, that it has a very steep learning curve but well worth the effort in my opinion.

Re: OT: Rate these games ;)
Thanks alot guys , I am kinda liking SFC but it seems alittle 'slow' at times. Tried to find the latest patch on the web but all the download links I find are no longer attached to anything.
The more I look at Might and Magic IX the more I like it but I still think overall Wiz8 is a much better design (down to the screen shaking when a big monster walks by and friendly NPC's helping you out in combat).
As for CIV, guess I'll stick to the Ultimate Construction set (CIV II), fully moddable it was some fun. Maybe time to dust it off for a while

Re: OT: Rate these games ;)
I have to disagree with the smarter AI comment. Civ 3 AI isn't that bright actually. It just cheats alot more. Sees things it shouldn't be able to see. Gets production, research bonuses, the diplomacy you can get on it is almost worthless. And as stated earlier most times it runs into war. If you try for a more peaceful path then you get walked all over with totally unreasonable trade requests and demands. Is the AI hard? Yes. Is it smart? No. It is quite simple to stop most AI attacks. They just come in wave after wave.
I still enjoy the game. Specially once the next patch comes out and aircraft aren't a total waste. As for modding it. You can still do quite abit. Not as much as I would like, but still alot. Specially if you get the hacked editor exe that adds back in the add remove options for most areas of the editor.
My biggest complaints here are with things that can't be moded. Lethality of nukes (or lack of)and impotence of aircraft (which should be fixed soon).
SE4 is better game, but Civ3 is still a goodish game. I don't feel I was wasting my money buying it.
In short. I expected more. Specially after the CTP's and Alpha Centauri. I think they removed more than they added looking at those that came before. But it adds enough to be its own game. All in all I find I can't really play Civ2 or CTP anymore. They have their own weak spots which are imho more glaring.
