Since you have a spaceyard on the base, you are allowed to retrofit, but when you upgrade the yard component, it will start out broken and unable to repair itself!
I did that once, and had to send a repair ship halfway across the galaxy

Except if your Yards also have Repair bay... But in this case beware of upgrading simultaneously the yard AND the bay !!!  |
