Cool Re: Moving from Windows to Linux Question

It might be possible that Shrapnel will be good enough to allow you to download the Linux version, hopefully for free if you already bought the Windows version. The game (I have played both versions) is identical on both systems (haven't tried in on a Mac).

They don't, I tried that already myself. You need to buy the CD if you want to play on multiple OSs.

Thumbs up Re: Moving from Windows to Linux Question

Well, there's always wine...

I did buy the CD, and I'm certainly glad I did.

Yes, this is my plan - i will let you know how it goes when I do it (probably in the next week or so). If it proves problematic, I guess I'll just suck it up and get the Linux version too - at least that way, I will have a spare license key I guess.

Please don't shout at me on this one!

(I think the game is great and have no complaint/beef. I bought the CD (for the manual, and anyway I prefer to). I shall only be using the Windows version.)

Why do Shrapnel care about giving downloaders alternative OS downloads if they want/request it? Given that they've given me multi-OS on CD.

The only thing I can think of is that they only give you access to your download for a short period of time - this feels like the same sort of thing (not that I really understand it, but I knew it was an issue when I bought the game online).

Given that you would be using the same licence key for linux as for windows, there doesn't seem to be any other reason for the restriction on downloading the game for multiple platforms.

Sigh :-(
