Fallout Re: T34 Calliope

Something made me look over here and saw this Thread...
What I have seems to indicate first used in Normandy Invasion on the M4A1 SHERMAN'S (Though as the war progressed the later versions of the SHERMAN were used as well. Ref. 3) mounting the original 76mm main gun. The T-34 CALLIOPE W/7.2 inch rockets seems to have been the most used in combat followed by a version that fired 4.5 inch rockets using multiple 3 pack aircraft rocket launchers. This from mostly Ref. 1 U.S. II CORP WWII documents.

The CALLIOPE could fire it's rockets singly/Rounds of 6/or full continuous 60 round rocket barrage. One CALLIOPE 7.2 launcher had the effective fire power of 15 Batteries of 105mm artillery. That's from the below War Department You Tube video. Ref. 2

When I open my WinSPWW2 the intro page always shows the CALLIOPE 7.2 with 76MM main gun.

Hope this helps.

I love you guys over here and read ALL things WWII. I guess this fulfills my Bi/Tri-annual contribution here. I'll step back across the hall now.

Pat
