Default Re: Sphere Worlds in Populated systems - Newbie Question

what's the population of a ring world / sphere world? is it always the same or does this number vary?
also, i imagine since it's that big that you can place a lot of facilities there otherwise i wouldn't see a real advantage to build these.
(except for the protection of your sun)

Advantage to building a sphere/ringworld.
  • Lot's of room for facilities
  • 150% on all three resource values
  • Room for lot's of people, so your production and construction facilities can get tremendous bonuses
  • Lot's of cargo room for weapons platforms and fighters.
  • Protects your star from star destroying weapons and events
  • Cannot be blown up by planet destroying weapons(At leat in the stock game)
  • Really, really cool to say you have built one
Disadvantages
  • Takes a lot of reasearch to get the tech needed
  • Takes a lot of resources and time to build the neccesary ships/bases to construct one
  • Usually by the time you get one, you don't need one anymore

Say, this could be the explanation of that report of a system with planets, but no star.
I tried this but you can't create a planet from asteroids unless there is already a star in the system.
That's not what I meant. If someone build a sphereworld in a system with planets, and then the sphereworld was destroyed, the planets would still be there, but no star.

Except that would leave an asteroid field where the sphereworld was, so I guess that's not it.
