Re: OT-Half-Life 2 is a great…
Ah! It's your fault then!
So it's not worth getting it for the story...How about the mod capabilities?

Caution this post will reveal details of the story line in Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 is in fact a good game: it does everything that a good FPS game should do. It also does it extremely well. But the game story line is just bad. Gordon Freeman is apparently world famous after the black mesa incident. So the fact that at the start of Half-Life 2 he has his picture taken by a security drone and this does not result in any response by the station security is very strange. Another thing is that the way Gordon joins up with the resistance run by his former black mesa colleagues. This is laughable. ‘Look Gordon Freeman is back. We haven’t seen him for nearly ten years so let’s tell him all of our secrets.’ That is just too strange. Oh, by the way, the sentence for working for the resistance is death or a trip to an off world labour camp. This makes their attitude even stranger. I really expected the game would have a more believable story line.

Re: OT-Half-Life 2 is a great…
You don't need a Online connection every time you play the game but you need one to set up a steam account, validate the product and download a patch of about 500 MB in order to play it. User without broadband: Have fun!
I won't buy the game. When I buy a game I want it to work out of the box, not do register and download 500 MB. I won't support such sales behavior.

Re: OT-Half-Life 2 is a great…
500 MB!?!? That'd only take about... 50 hours of consecutive downloading on a dialup connection. That's hoping it doesn't screw up somehow during that time

Re: OT-Half-Life 2 is a great…
It is your lucky day Renegade, so it will take a mere 48 hours for you! Just two days, non-stop, while battling Murphy. For this endeavour, you will be rewarded with a game only Lasting for a quarter of the amount of time you put in the download. Isn't that nice?
I guess the download requires you to use the game rather than a download managed as well, so no resuming or things of the like. But even if you can resume, 500 mo to download is quite ludicrous; it would be hardly acceptable even for a MMORPG.

Re: OT-Half-Life 2 is a great…
There was the whole pre-loading option, where the game downloaded itself over the Last few months.
If you bought it Online and did that, then now it just verifies your codes and decrypts the whole thing. (Very little internet activity, horrendous amounts of disk activity for an hour or two)
If you bought it B&M, you should have the CD(s) and not need to download very much (theoretically).

Re: OT-Half-Life 2 is a great…
i enjoyed HL2. CS Source kinda sucks because the community is so damn elitest. for example i asked how to get a function in game to work (simple question) and the response was get lost newb! so needless to say i went to a different server. its a far cry from this game where i ask a question and i get well thought out responses. i guess age shows when it comes to games instead of trying to help others they flame.

Unfortunately you have to. The 500 MB is needed for the CD-game! I couldn't believe it myself but a friend bought the game and asked the hotline about the Internet thing. The 500 MB info is from the hotline.
